Can't wait to see how Pen & Ink progresses! Such a fun blog!

june goals

Time to reflect back on my May Goals and to look forward to June!

1. Eat more slowly, say grace and think before eating.
May: Working on this. This has always been a struggle for me but when I do take my time to eat and enjoy what is going into my body, the process is much more rewarding. This will always be on my "goal/to do" list I think.
June: Still working on this but have gotten really great at writing down what I am grateful for every day using the Wonderful Days journal app as well as using the MyFitnessPal app. Can't cross this one off the list yet but there is definitely progress happening!

2. Brainstorm more ways to use my organizational skills for a possible career choice.
May: My mind has been working at this every day and night. Still in the thinking stage but getting closer ... I can feel it!
June: Unfortunately I haven't made much progress on this one so it has to stay on the list!

4. Add an extra day of moving/exercise per week.

May: Just found the time to do this and it feels amazing. Bought some new kicks this weekend so bring on the movement!
June: DONE! And will continue my walk/run plan throughout the summer!

5. Work on a craft project per week.
May: Been doing more thinking than doing on this goal but I can feel it coming together. Hello Crafty May!
June: Dreaming but not doing. Must DO in June!

6. Get back to making jewelry.
7. Get my recipe project in order and start cooking them!
8. Read a little every day.

yesterday

  • Business Breakfast Club event on tax issues for charities and not-for-profits. Another success!
  • Facebook seminar. Learned so much and am so excited for my Twitter one at the end of June.
  • Made a turkey wrap for lunch.
  • Walked to Dollar Store and Fields ... got some fun finds and treats.
  • Finished listening to "Winter Garden" on my walk. Holy - I had chills. This one was long and involved but still true to Kristin Hannah because it was about families and their relationships as they develop throughout the years. The end was AMAZING!
  • Emptied the dishwasher and got a turkey casserole ready for dinner.
  • Wrapped my little cousin Alyshia's birthday/graduation gifts. Cannot wait to celebrate with her on Friday!
  • Painted my nails.
  • Put dinner in the oven.
  • Made a caramel drizzle coffee.
  • Read 'Skinny Dipping'.
  • Had dinner by myself because Chad was running late.
  • Realized that I had ruined two nails so I had to go take my fresh nail polish off. Huge bummer - bigger bummer that my manicure I got on Sunday was chipped by Monday :( I don't know if I will ever learn!
  • Soccer game at McMillan Island in Fort Langley.
  • We lost 4 to 3 but we should have killed them ... and I scored which feels good :)
  • Wine and chat with my Ninjas in the rain.
  • Home to have a hot bath to warm up, and read before hitting the sack.

my new favourite snacks

Try them ... delicious!

last night

I skipped my Monday morning shower yesterday morning in favor of 10 extra minutes lying in bed listening to the rain fall. An excellent choice to start my day :)

My lunch break was spent doing some running around (library, Wal-Mart, etc.) and then I took a few minutes to just sit and enjoy the quiet.

I had a horrible last hour at work so when I got home from work I was still fuming so I went for a brisk walk before the rain started. The weather has been so weird - it got so sunny and hot while I was walking but then the black clouds were back as quickly as they went away.

After dinner I cleaned up and then we watched 'Moneyball' with Brad Pitt. It was slow at parts but I don't know what it is - there is just something that is always good about a baseball movie.

dinner tonight

Going to try this for dinner tonight. Have no clue how it will turn out but picked it up on our last trip to the States. Wish me luck :)

monday's inspiration

I love this ...

my weekend

Friday ...
Found out that we had our nephew Curtis Friday tonight which is fine but my plans of a cold drink, yummy food and a movie went out the window. I love Curtis but not even sure if he likes me ... is this what it's going to be like when we have kids and they turn in to almost teenagers??!

Got home and Curtis was still sleeping - long story short, the poor kid slept all night and threw up once and then went back to bed :( Not sure what he has but it sure isn't good. I helped Chad do some gardening and then instead of going out for dinner, I ran to Save On to pick up some treats and ice cream, and then to McDicks to get Chad an ice coffee (1st $1 ice coffee of the season) and some chicken mcnuggets and fries for Curtis - which he didn't touch. Chad and I ate on the patio and then it started to rain - which resulted in a beautiful double rainbow. We watch Stephen King's 'Bag of Bones' - it started off really good but went weird in the second part. Got Curtis all re-settled and crashed - hard - for the night.

Saturday...
Woke up feeling refreshed and ready to 'get. things. done'. First up - garbage, bathroom organization and attempting to shrink two sweatshirts that I bought online that look sloppy. Note to self - you are not an XL :)

Had a bath and started reading 'Skipping Dipping' - going to be so good. We dropped Curtis off with Dennis and then we went to Walmart and Costco. Almost at Dennis' to pick up Lexxus and then Cory called for some help. Quick visit there to help Cory move some couches. Picked up Lexxus for real this time and home to freshen up and enjoy a cocktail in the sun before heading to Donna Martin's for a girls only evening on the south deck :)

Sunday ...
- Brunch at casino in Burnaby.
- Manicures and pedicures at Trinity spa.
- Lovely visit with Grandma Bower.
- Shopping at Garden Works.
- Long, lost drive home.
- Picked up Lexxus.
- Drove Curtis home.
- Home to make spaghetti with spicy sausage and mushrooms.
- Texted with Erynn to plan a Vegas trip :)
- Started watching season 2 of '3rd Rock'.
- Read 'Skinny Dipping' before bed.

And just because I love her ...

huge wish list item

Today I dream of owning a caravan. Yes, I dream :)

tgif

Yesterday was another rough one. I have been tired all week for no real reason at all. Every time I yawn or say that I am tired, Chad asks me why? I have no clue but he is kind of famous for asking me questions that I can't really answer (and for never answering my questions). Long weekend recovery/withdrawal maybe? Or now that I am getting older, I am really feeling the affects of the weather being so inconsistent? Who knows but one thing is for sure - I am glad it is Friday.

After work I headed home and made a quick dinner of pizza and wings - pizza was on the menu and Chad got some wings off a guy at work so I had less of both and still felt okay about myself - ha ha. After I cleaned up and threw in a load of laundry, and then went for my walk. I bailed on walking on Tuesday night so I couldn't forget about it last night - at least the sun was shining :) Home to relax for a bit and finish the first season of "3rd Rock from the Sun". I never really watched the series back in the day but it was one of Chad's (and his mom's) favourites so I picked it up from the library. Season two is all ready for us this weekend but after the finale last night - when Dick's "replacement" shows up - I remember why I wasn't really into it before. We will see what happens. Bring on the weekend!

i can't wait

I can't wait for Sunday ...
  • Brunch with my husband.
  • Manis and Pedis with my husband.
  • Visit with my grandma.
But I am not one to wish my life away so I really can wait but oh man - am I looking forward to it!

i wish

I wish ... that all books were available a) at the library in both print and audiobook formats and b) online available for purchase for my Kobo. I really, really wish that today!

happy mond ... er ... tuesday

I find it so hard to adjust after a long weekend. Not that I am complaining at all about having an extra day added to a beautiful May weekend, I just had a tough time figuring out where I was, what time it was and what day it was when I woke up this morning. It is already early afternoon and I haven't even gotten through all my emails (mostly junk mind you). But I'm okay with that. I have been working on "living in the moment" and it is starting to stick. Life really is good ... you just have to believe!

Here's a Tuesday giggle and piece of inspiration for you my friends ... enjoy!

Life is really that easy and that good! Have a great long weekend friends!

last night

Last night Chad BBQ'd some spicy sausages from Costco while I made fried potatoes and mushrooms, beans and a salad. It was a delicious meal enjoyed with a cool glass of Pinot Grigio. Unfortunately Chad didn't feel well after dinner so I went for a long walk and then came back and watched "Retreat" while downloading some new iPhone apps. The movie was HORRIBLE so I was glad for the distraction = wine + iPhone :)

And this issue of Heart of the City goes out to all my teacher friends! xo

mother's day sunday ...

Yesterday we celebrated Mother's Day with my mother and sister-in-law. It was a beautiful afternoon that was filled with these adorable characters :)

this weekend

We watched this movie on Friday evening and it was delightful. A typical romantic comedy and therefore, extremely predictable but it was really funny and filled with chemistry. A fun chick flick!

I finished reading this yesterday and I loved it as much as I loved Volume 1. I really enjoy reading anything that is written in 'diary' form - can't wait for Volume 3: Heaven which is waiting for me at the library to pick up!

heart is ready for summer and so am i!
